My dog is lost in Mallorca: what to do in the first hours

Steps to find your lost dog or cat in Mallorca: who to notify, how to search and how to post a notice that works.

The first hours matter

Most lost dogs turn up close to where they escaped. Start searching the area straight away, calling calmly, with someone at home in case it comes back on its own. Cats usually hide very nearby: check garages, gardens and under cars.

Who to notify

Notify on the same day:

  • The animal shelter in your area: in Palma, the municipal centre at Son Reus; in many towns, the centre the council works with.
  • The local police of your town.
  • Nearby vet clinics: if someone finds your pet, they usually take it there to read the microchip.
  • Local rescues and your neighbours.

Post a notice

Post a notice on evoZoa with a clear photo, the exact area and the date: it appears in the lost pets list and is easy to share on WhatsApp and social media. Share it in your town’s groups as well.

Print posters with a photo, a phone number and "LOST" in large letters, and put them up where your pet went missing and at vets and pet shops.

Check the shelters

Check the shelters’ lists of animals taken in regularly. You can see them together in our adoption section, and Son Reus’s list includes animals found on the street.

So it does not happen again

What helps most to get your pet back:

  • A microchip with up-to-date details: if you change phone number or address, ask your vet to update it.
  • An ID tag with your phone number on the collar or harness.
  • Recent full-body photos and photos of distinctive marks.
  • Take care with fireworks and storms: that is when most pets run away.
